Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport


Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport, the leading tool for developing economic and tourist attractiveness, is the gateway to the Auvergne region and its many tourist attractions. 

Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport has been managed by the VINCI Airports group since 2008. This delegated management contract is part of the process of decentralising the management of French regional airports. It includes the operation, maintenance and upkeep of the airport platform: terminal building, runways and equipment as well as commercial facilities.

Since 2007, Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport has been owned by a Syndicat Mixte composed of: 

Auvergne Regional Council 40%, Clermont Communauté 32%, Puy-de-Dôme General Council 28%.

  • A little history :

  • 1916 : Construction of the world's first solid runway
  • 1920 : Creation of the Aéro-club d'Auvergne
  • 1929 : First commercial link Geneva / Lyon / Clermont / Bordeaux
  • 1937 : Construction of the first 200 m² terminal building, thanks to the collaboration of the Aéro-club d'Auvergne and local authorities
  • 1939  : Establishment of the Aeronautics Industrial Workshop
  • 1949 : First seasonal flight to Algeria, operated until 1962 by Air Algérie and Air France
  • 1961 : Creation of the new airline Air Inter and its first line: Paris / Clermont-Ferrand / Nice
  • 1973 : Construction of the current terminal building
  • 1975 : Extension of the runway to 3,015 m.
  • 1976 : Commissioning of the All-Weather Landing System (ILS cat. III)
  • 1992 : Modernization and expansion of the terminal building Establishment of Regional Airlines
  • 1995 : Start of the Clermont-Ferrand hub (connecting platform)
  • 1998 : Construction of a cargo car park
  • 1999/2000 : Expansion of aircraft parking lots, construction of 2 taxiways and a transfer terminal. Installation of two access gateways for wide-body aircraft Purchase of Regional Airlines by Air France: Regional Airlines becomes Regional European Airline, an Air France subsidiary
  • June 2000 : Inauguration and opening of the pier (satellite)
  • July 2002 : Installation of 6 moving walks in the satellite gallery
  • 2004 : Inauguration of the South Aeronautical Industrial Zone
  • December 2004 : Creation of the soundproofed fixed point zone dedicated to engine tests
  • 21 Feb. 2006 : Inauguration of the new SSLIA building: Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Service
  • March 2006 : Establishment of the saddlery company TECHNO LOGISTICS on the airport platform
  • July 2006 : Creation of AIRSET, the first window for aeronautical assets
  • July 2007 : Rehabilitation of the car park collection system
  • January 2008 : The Syndicat mixte de l'Aéroport Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne (40% of which is composed of the Auvergne Regional Council, 32% of which is composed of Clermont Communauté and 28% of the Puy-de-Dôme General Council), the new owner of Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport, has awarded the operation of the airport to the private consortium formed equally by VINCI Airports and Keolis Airport, already partners in the operations of Grenoble and Chambéry airports. Creation of the Société d'Exploitation de l'Aéroport de Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne.
  • July 2008 : Signing of a memorandum of understanding for the establishment in the South Industrial Zone of a REGIONAL MAINTENANCE hangar of 6,500m².
  • November 30, 2008 : Launch of the website www.clermont-aeroport.com
  • January 2013 : Redesign of the airport website interface and new domain name: www.facile2voyager.com
  • January 2014 : the airport has surpassed the symbolic milestone of 400,000 passengers
  • 2015 : Renewal of the public service delegation contract with VINCI Airports for a 12-year period.
  • January 2016 : Commissioning of the Business Terminal.
  • June 2016 : Centenary of the first permanent runway in the world.
  • 2017 : Opening of the Clermont-Ferrand Marrakech line with TUI
  • 2018 : Opening of the Olbia and Malaga lines with TUI
  • October 2018 : New responsive website
  • April 2019 : Opening new seasonal line Clermont / Lisbon
